Our Craft
Asiro's range is built around a single steel and three blade sizes: a chef's knife, a utility knife, and a kiritsuke, paired with a magnetic holder. Each knife is made from 67-layer Damascus steel around an AUS-10 core.
AUS-10 is a high-carbon stainless steel with a composition (around 1% carbon, 13-15% chromium, plus molybdenum and vanadium) that gives it a good balance of edge retention and corrosion resistance. Cladding it in 67 layers of Damascus steel adds flexibility and impact resistance around that hard core, and produces a distinct wavy pattern on the blade face. No two blades come out with exactly the same pattern.
The handles are natural African Mkuruti wood, shaped to sit balanced in the hand. As with any natural wood, the grain differs slightly from handle to handle and darkens a little with age and handling. Washing by hand and drying straight away keeps it in good condition for years.
The range is intentionally limited to three blade sizes rather than a full block set. The chef's knife handles the bulk of everyday prep, the utility knife covers smaller precision tasks, and the kiritsuke's tip and edge geometry suit fine slicing work. The magnetic holder is designed to store all three off the counter and out of a drawer, where unprotected edges dull faster from contact with other utensils.
